The Chartered Institute of Transport is an International body. In the UK, the CIT has merged with the Institute of Logistics to form the Institute of Logistics and Transport.

The Scottish Section of the Chartered Institute of Transport was founded in 1928 and was dissolved in May 1999, with the merger with the Institute of Logistics. During that time the Scottish Section was active in all spheres of Scottish transport.
