William Murchison, BSc.(Hons), MILT

William is a Train Planner at First ScotRail which involves developing Scotland's future train timetables to best meet the requirements of all stakeholders. This is a role he enjoys very much and is highly enthusiastic about the future of rail in Scotland.

Previous professional roles include a period as a Policy Officer in the Transport Strategy and Legislation Division of the Scottish Executive and as an Assistant Transport Consultant at Steer Davies Gleave where he was involved in a wide range of Transport Planning projects.

Born in Edinburgh, William spent his primary school years in Applecross (Wester Ross) and his high school life in Tasmania. He has had a strong interest in the Transport Sector since childhood and spent his school work experience in scheduling at the local bus company. He returned to the UK and spent some time working as a bus and coach driver before studying at Loughborough University for his degree in Transport Management and Planning which he received with First Class Honours. He was also awarded a University Prize for best student research project. In his spare time William enjoys playing the bassoon in amateur orchestras.
