John Yellowlees, MA(Hons)(Cantab), MPhil(Edin), FCILT
John Yellowlees was from 2004 to 2007 the Scottish Region Chairman and a member of the Scottish Region Committee. He is the External Relations Manager of First ScotRail.
Prior to joining the railway industry in 1991, he was for seventeen years an administrative civil servant in the Departments of the Environment and Transport, where he headed branches responsible for successively: client liaison on Scottish public buildings; policy on registration of merchant ships and fishing vessels; and coordination of transport programmes for London Docklands.
A move to the railway industry in which he has had a lifelong interest enabled him to return to his native Edinburgh, and he has since worked for ScotRail, the British Railways Board, Railtrack Scotland Zone, ScotRail Railways and First ScotRail, where he supports the Head of Media Relations on relations with the Regional Transport Partnerships and with Passenger Focus, as well as on development of First ScotRail's Adopt A Station policy, handling of filming requests and briefing on customer issues.
He belongs to the Executive Committee of the Scottish Transport Studies Group, the Industrial and Professional Advisory Committee of Napier University's School of the Built Environment and the Scottish Sub-Committee of the Railway Heritage Committee, and is a Director of Transform Scotland, the Scottish campaign for a sustainable transport policy. Since 2003 he has also been Secretary of the Edinburgh Branch of the Saltire Society and in 2009 he was elected to Murrayfield Community Council. .
