Visit to the Scottish Maritime Museum Scotland's influence on the maritime history of the world from the eighteenth century to the modern day has been enormous and out of all proportion to the size of the country. One of three sites operated by the Scottish Maritime Museum containing the exhibitions and collections which tell the story of that great maritime tradition, Irvine is the pre-eminent shipbuilding and engineering collection in the UK, and will have exhibitions on yacht-building and on the Royal Navy at Faslane. |

Integrated Transport - a will-o'-the-wisp? by John Wylde The idea of integrated or coordinated transport was used in legislation for most of the twentieth century, but never did it seem to be achievable because of the different interpretations of integration and often of political ideology and vested interests. This presentation will capture important events in the development of inland transport, concluding with a critical review of modern public transport provision in Britain. |

The CILT Scottish Region Annual Rail Event Neil Buxton, General Manager, Association of Community Rail Partnerships Community rail partnerships are a bridge between the railway and local communities. They are about positive development, bringing together interests along the rail corridor. Some partnerships have been instrumental in achieving spectacular increases in ridership through innovative marketing, improved services and better station facilities. "Scotland's Transport: the view from Scottish Chambers" by Graham Bell, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce The award-winning Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is a member-led organisation with 2000 members and 55 staff. The Chamber offers networking opportunities, an advisory service to start-up or expanding businesses, a certification service for global trading, apprenticeship and commercial training and seamless relationships with many public and private organisations. In 1973 Heil Europe was established in Fife where the company has built on its engineering and manufacturing know-how to produce refuse collection vehicles for the UK and European markets.
This visit will be a presentation and tour of the manufacturing facilities, to see how Heil Europe continues to provide the premier class of product and customer service for which its reputation was established nearly a century ago. |

"The Work of Transaid - CILT's Charity of Choice" by Clare Bottle, Transaid Transaid is an international development charity that seeks to reduce poverty and improve quality of life through providing better access to essential services such as healthcare, education and economic opportunities and across the developing world. The CILT Scottish Region Annual Sustainable Transport Event "Paths for All" by Ian Findlay, Chief Officer, The Paths for All Partnership Paths for All is a national charity promoting walking for health and the development of multi-use path networks. Their vision is "Paths for people ... a happier, healthier, greener, more active Scotland". Ian Findlay explains how their strategic priorities are to reduce the proportion of the population who are inactive, through the delivery of a national walking programme; and to increase the number, quality, accessibility and multi-use of paths. The CILT Scottish Region Christmas Event "Christmas Jinks with CILT" - the CILT Scotland Christmas Event Recently the esteemed editor of CILT's magazine Focus David Jinks wrote in his blog that "I can chat about the Institute's communications plans and my adventures in journalism ad nauseam if you are hard up for a speaker one month". The Strathspey Railway: Present and Future by Douglas Norris, CILT Scottish Officer The Strathspey Railway opened in 1978 a five-mile stretch of the original Highland Main Line from Aviemore to Boat of Garten as a heritage operation. Extension in 2002 to Broomhill brought it within tantalising range of Grantown-on-Spey, but the final stretch with its potential public transport benefit requires Transport Scotland to deliver realignment of the A95 at Gaich.
