Bill Burns, FCILT
Bill Burns is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and assists with the CILT Scottish policy group, a committee member of the Government funded Sea & Water organisations and has been in the transportation industry for over 30 years, the majority of which has been spent in container shipping.
He has held various positions in Sales, Operations, Planning, General Management and Finance and Administration with Sea-Land Service Inc., and the responsibilities included running major vessel networks, country management, logistics and port and free trade zone development.
For over 22 years he has worked overseas based in the Middle East, Bangladesh, India, Switzerland and Holland. With the takeover of Sea-Land by A.P. Moller Maersk he continued with AP Moller Terminals as a Commercial Director primarily responsible for the development of Salalah in Oman and also assisted in other port development projects in various countries.
In 2002 he returned to Scotland to join Clydeport as Managing Director of the Hunterston Container Terminal Project, and assisted the parent company Peel Ports in the development of a tri-modal container facility on the Manchester Ship Canal and other potential container related developments.
He currently holds an associate position with EZD Global, a financial logistics company and is also an associate with Ocean Shipping Consultants, a leading ports and shipping consultancy.
