The Scottish Region Scholarship winners were announced during the "Sail away with Caledonian MacBrayne" event on Tuesday 16th May 2006. This year's finalists are all students at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
The finalists are Matthias Knicky, Triantafyllos Yiortsos, Chris Meng, Marton Ulstein and Sina Lawson. The Scottish Region awards two scholarships annually, each amounting to £1,250 and this year's were presented to the two winners, Marton Ulstein and Chris Meng, by Mr. Robbie Brown, Regional Manager (Clyde), Caledonian MacBrayne. They also received First ScotRail tickets allowing them to travel on the ScotRail network, courtesy of ScotRail.
David Reid, the Scottish Regional Officer said that choosing the winners had been much more difficult than in previous years and this had given those making the decision a very hard task.
However, two winners had to be chosen and after much debate Chris Meng and Marton Ulstein were picked. David Reid also pointed out that all candidates had shown a very high standard of work and congratulated all of the candidates for their efforts.
