Road Charging Issues The Prime Focus Of Scottish Region's 2004 Annual Conference

Scottish Region, has re-structured its principal annual events, comprised of an L & T Conference, Exhibition and Dinner and has arranged a major Transport Conference this year, taking place on 9th November 2004. This will be followed by the Annual L & T Dinner on the same day, both at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel. It is planned that next year, there will be a Logistics Conference and associated exhibition, followed by the ever popular Regional Dinner.

The programme for this year's conference includes participants who have first hand knowledge and experience of road charging and associated areas. These include the Keynote Address by Malcolm Murray-Clark Director for Congestion Charging TfL, Andy Godfrey of Boots plc, Neil Greig of The Automobile Association Motoring Trust, Ewan Brown Chairman Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (TIE), Dr Bob MacLellan of Fife Council and others from - WESTRANS, Babtie Group and First Glasgow. The day's proceedings will be chaired by Don Nutt of Steer Davies Gleave, who has considerable experience on congestion issues.

Congestion is a major issue throughout the UK and particularly for Scotland as it affects its larger cities. With the Government opening up the debate on alternatives on charging for road use and city access Congestion Charging options being considered, this conference comes at a critical time for operators, local authorities and users of both public passenger transport and indeed for logistics companies requiring access for deliveries. The issues for discussion and debate at the conference will therefore also have significant relevance for authorities and operators in other parts of the UK and will by no means be parochial in content. The event's objectives are to inform, debate and develop knowledge and expertise on these issues towards finding solutions best for the industry and society at large.

A number of Passenger Interchanges have successfully been established in Scotland and these are making significant contributions to reducing car traffic in nearby towns and cities. The conference will also cover this topic as well as strategies for managing demand, implications of congestion charging for car and commercial transport and an international dimension.

The Region is also pleased to welcome to Scotland, Members representing CILT Councils across the world, which will be holding a number of events at the same venue throughout that week. The annual Logistics and Transport Dinner on the same day, has had well over 300 attending and has become the principal event of its kind in Scotland. Members, colleagues and their organisations have supported this by inviting guests, clients, staff and contacts for an evening of networking, hospitality, entertainment and relaxation. This year's Business Speaker will be Jim Lee Managing Director Travel Dundee (part of the National Express Group).

Information and booking details for both events, as well as the detailed conference programme are available from Membership Services and from the Regional Officer for Scotland. Members will shortly get a direct mailing of the Conference Brochure and Dinner details. This Conference is a must for weighing up the pros and cons on how best to deal with congestion whether in local or national government, public passenger transport or concerned with access to town and city centres to make deliveries. The issues of this day are of concern to individuals and businesses irrespective of the sectors in which they operate.

Places are available for individuals to book for the Dinner but companies are also encouraged to take this prime opportunity for corporate entertainment. Great opportunity to entertain clients and guests, network, reward staff with a night out.
