Andy Lightowler is Head of Train Planning with First ScotRail, a role he took on in 2007. Born in 1964, Andy was educated in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and at Aston University in Birmingham where he graduated with a first class BSc. (Hons) Transport Operation and Planning in 1987.

After graduating, Andy worked for three years in the bus industry in the North East of England in a number of positions, including Depot Manager, Peterlee and then took up consultancy positions with JMP in Leeds, Allott & Lomax in Manchester and then (in 1995) with Atkins in Manchester. In his career in consultancy, Andy has also worked in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, and in 2002 was appointed as Business Manager responsible for Atkins' transport planning business in Scotland.

His main professional interest is the identification of effective and affordable public transport solutions. In his spare time Andy is a keen Munro bagger, traveller, music and film "expert" and supports the much maligned Leeds United. His wife Bali encourages Andy to spend less time in the garden and more time in the kitchen.
